iProRecorder review

Our Rating :
Price when reviewed : £1.79
from the App Store

iProRecorder aims to be the best professional stereo audio app for the iPhone and has a wealth of features.

This includes input meters, so you can avoid overloading your iPhone mic by repositioning the device as appropriate, and three quality settings (LQ, 11kHz, for dictation; MQ, 22kHz, for radio, and HQ, 44.1kHz, CD quality). It also has a Timer recording option, or you can just press the red button to start.

Other key features include three playback speeds (x 0.75, x 1 or x 1.5) and uncompressed .wav recordings. New recordings can be appended to existing recordings, the iPhone will add geographic tagging to a recording and you can attach photos to recordings.

To archive your recordings, you can send them directly to Peak 6, email a link (active for 10 days) to the BIAS server or browse your device from a Mac via wifi. The email upload option was painfully slow, but the wifi browsing integration was brilliant.

We also liked iProRecorder’s multi-faceted interface – for example, tapping the speaker icon changes the volume slider to a progress bar, so you can instantly sweep backwards or forwards. More precise scrubbing is done by drag-rotating the central blue dial clockwise or anti-clockwise.

iProRecorder is an excellent iPhone app and it’s very reasonably priced, too. There may be a plethora of mono/stereo recording apps coming to market, many of them cheaper or even free, but none offer anything like the flexibility and functionality of iProRecorder.
